NMGOA 2012 Candidate Gun Rights Survey

E-mail Print PDF

We are pleased to announce the results of the 2012 New Mexico Gun Owners Association 2012 Candidate Gun Rights Survey.  This page will be updated as we receive returns from the candidates.  The questions we asked are as follows.

1- Law abiding citizens have the right to carry a weapon, with or without a government issued permit, in any place that they have a right to be.

2 - Article 2 Section 6 of the New Mexico Constitution says “No law shall abridge the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms for security and defense, for lawful hunting and recreational use and for other lawful purposes, but nothing herein shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons. No municipality or county shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to keep and bear arms.” Our right to bear arms must not be subject to local laws.

3 - Article 2 Section 6 of the New Mexico should be amended to replace the “but nothing herein shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons” with language that guarantees the right to discreet carry without a permit.

4 - Law abiding citizens should have the right to defend themselves at any time or in any place they have a right to be.

5 - Law abiding citizens should have civil immunity in the event that they are  not charged criminally for an act of self-defense.

A yes response to each question is scored a single point.  A "Yes, but .." is scored as a no or zero points.  If the answer was anything but yes / no, a link to the full text of the response will be available by clicking on the score.

NMGOA Legislative Gun Rights Survey

E-mail Print PDF

The New Mexico Gun Owners Association is working hard to help the voters of New Mexico understand who is looking out for their rights in the upcoming elections. Therefore we have put together this questionnaire to help voters ascertain what the candidates feel is important in relation to self-defense and firearms rights.

You can get a copy here.

We encourage you to send copies of this survey to the local candidates for Sheriff, county commissioners, city councilors, mayors, etc.  If we get them, we will add a page for each county that we receive a survey form for.

We are sending these out this week and are hoping to have this data returned by May 25th and we will have it uploaded as soon as it is returned.
